A Passion for Landscape Photography and the Peak District

Photography isn’t just a skill for me—it’s a passion, especially when it comes to the landscapes of the Peak District National Park. Having grown up near this rugged, beautiful area, I’ve spent countless hours exploring its gritstone edges, rolling hills, and hidden woodlands. This intimate knowledge shapes every workshop I lead. I’ll take you to locations I’ve photographed in every season—to share not just how to shoot, but why these places are so special. My love for landscape photography drives me to help you see and capture the magic of the Peak District through your own lens.

Tailored Planning for Your Journey

The experience begins before the workshop even starts. After booking, I’ll send you a questionnaire to get a sense of your photography abilities, experience, and goals. Are you new to your camera and looking to understand the fundamentals? Or perhaps you’re keen to master advanced techniques like focus stacking and bracketing? By tailoring the lessons to your specific needs, I ensure the workshop is both challenging and rewarding, no matter your skill level. This personal touch sets the stage for a day that’s all about your growth as a photographer.

Clear Details on Time, Location, and Routes

Once your spot is confirmed, you’ll receive all the essential details: the exact time we’ll meet, the location in the Peak District, and a detailed walking route provided via OS maps. For example, in my "Bluebell Woodland" workshop, we meet at a designated spot before heading into the enchanting woodland, where vibrant bluebells carpet the forest floor in spring. The OS map ensures you’re prepared for the hike, allowing you to focus on photography rather than navigation. With everything laid out clearly, you’ll arrive ready to immerse yourself in the experience.

Techniques You’ll Learn

During the workshop, I’ll guide you through a range of photography techniques to help you capture the landscape at its best. Here’s what you can expect to explore:

  • Composition: Learn how to frame your shots to create balanced, eye-catching images—whether it’s positioning a lone tree against a dramatic sky or capturing the symmetry of a bluebell-lined path. Using nature to lead your eye into the focal point and how to simplify a scene.

  • Exposure: Master the interplay of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to perfectly balance the bright highlights and deep shadows of the Peak District.

  • Advanced Techniques: Learn how to shoot like a pro. Using ideas, as well as techniques such as contrast, colour palette, depth and more. You may want to experiment with ICM, learn how to focus stack and create compelling images.

  • Post-processing: (Optional Add-on) Discover how to enhance your images after the shoot, turning good photos into great ones with simple and advanced editing techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop.

A Client’s Perspective

Wondering what it’s really like to join one of my workshops? Here’s what Alan Hall, a previous participant, had to say:

1 to 1 photography lesson peak district .jpg

“William talked through the fundamentals in a way I understood, hinting at little things that can make a good picture great! We went to a local café for an editing session and again made something totally alien to me understandable!!”

Alan’s experience reflects what I strive for: clear, approachable teaching that unlocks the potential in every photographer. From breaking down complex concepts to sharing practical tips—like how to use layer masks in post-processing over a coffee—you’ll leave with both new skills and confidence.

A Day of Discovery and Creativity

When you join one of my workshops, you’re signing up for more than just a lesson—you’re stepping into a day of inspiration. Picture yourself standing infant of an epic sunrise, as I guide you to the perfect angle or suggest a slower shutter speed to soften the scene. The Peak District unfolds before you, and with each shot, you’ll feel your abilities grow. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, you’ll walk away with stunning photos and a deeper connection to landscape photography.
