Growing up just on the outside of Manchester, my outdoor escape would be to visit the Peak District. It’s almost on my doorstep, around 25 minutes drive when the traffic is clear. I have spent a lot of time here growing up and now more than ever with landscape photography being my career choice.

It’s such a beautiful part of our country and deserves all the recognition it gets. As the longest standing national park, it has so much to offer for us photographers! From the largest land slide in the UK, Alport Castle. To the dense woodland of twisted oaks and delicate birch trees at Lawrence Field. Prone to cloud inversion, which are more common than you think, because of its geographical location, we get to experience these phenomenal weather conditions and make some pretty special memories.

I have explored the majority of the Peak District while on my hunt for the ‘best’ photo, if that even exists… there are still some wonder shots on my bucket list that I haven’t quite managed to capture yet. One of those is the phenomena of an ‘up fall’ rainbow. We don’t have many waterfalls here but the one on Kinder is quite impressive. In high winds, it actually blows back onto itself, lifting the waterfall upwards into the air! Now imagine at golden hour with a crack in the clouds, as the beams illuminate the water droplets. Wow.

There are a multitude of very impressive locations in the Peak District, some of which can be found in my Top 10 Peak District Photography guide. For a more personal experience in these locations you can have a look at my upcoming workshops. Where I can break down the compositions of each place, assist you with your camera techniques and show you some secret spots around the area.

“William talked through the fundamentals in a way I understood, hinting at little things that can make a good picture great!
We went to a local café for an editing session and again made something totally alien to me understandable!!.”
