Hi, I’m Will.

William hickie peak district photographer

For the past eight years my eye has been set down the view finder, capturing the world around us. I have always seen this world in a unique light, quite literally. Being born with Ambylopia and Deutranopia, it means that my brain only uses one eye, of which is colour blind. I wouldn’t say that I have struggled with this, i’m just aware that I see everything different.

What made me become a photographer when vision is quite clearly very important? I have a love for art, the outdoors, and being able to look back on those incredible moments. I refuse to let this condition control what I do with my life, and so far I think my work is pretty good. Good enough to get booked for events, and sell prints of my landscapes at least.

It’s quite funny really, because it usually comes as a shock when I tell people, it’s quite the juxtaposition. But it works, I also have no idea what my images really look like! But as long as you like them, that’s all that matters.

“We had Will come to photograph our charity event in the Peak District. He was great - he's taken some stunning photographs that look fantastic, provided them very quickly, was an absolute pleasure to have around and so easy to work with! He has a great eye for lovely little moments captured on camera and the photos we have of the evet are way above what we could ever have done ourselves. Thanks Will, look forward to working with you again soon!”

“I want to thank William Hickie Photography for these fantastic pictures! He really captured the values that are most important to myself and my family! Professional by nature and by quality (just look at the pictures!) If anyone ever needs there special moments captured, I highly recommend.”

“Will did a photoshoot for our little boys second birthday and I can't say anything other than they were perfect. The candid shots he captured were amazing and even got the weather for it spot on!!”

A glimpse into how I work

In my recent video, I photograph an incredible temperature inversion exploring Goyt Valley. A popular walk known as the Pym Chair Trio.

A dirt path along a stone wall with barbed wire fence in green grassy and shrub-covered landscape, under a blue sky with some clouds and fog in the distance.
A wide view of a landscape with blooming white flowers covering rolling brown terrain in the foreground, misty hills and mountains in the background, and cloudy sky above.

“I had a fantastic landscape photography lesson with William 16/09/2024.
We met up early for perfect conditions, sunrise and a cloud inversion.

William talked through the fundamentals in a way I understood, hinting at little things that can make a good picture great!
We went to a local café for an editing session and again made something totally alien to me understandable!!” - Alan H
