My brother and I had set out for another adventure, snow had fallen the previous night, and as we arrived we were getting glimpses of stars and the dawn colours breaking over the horizon. But, that quickly changed. As we approached the top, a snow cloud completely swallowed us, the land and all of the light. It was a complete white-out. The wind picked up and it was like horizontal pins flying straight at us. We decided to carry on anyway and follow the drystone wall up to the trig point. But that meant following the topography of the land, constant ups and down, in and out of huge snowdrifts, sometimes over our waists. A few times we would just lie down and crawl. Through all of this, there was one moment where the wind stopped and the cloud thinned out. A red light from the rising sun was diffused through the clouds and covered everything, it was the only colour showing on the snow.
