Salt Cellar on Derwent Edge - Summer Sunset

£85.00

My all time favourite spot in the Peak District for sunset, next to Ladybower reservoir. I recently placed 4th in an international photography competition with this photograph. Salt Cellar is along Derwent Edge - including many other gritstone rock formations which we will pass by on the walk. There are loads of amazing compositions to be had here which I will talk you through, and why they work better than others. You get a tremendous view of the surrounding hills which light up like you have never seen before. We are also going in heather season, so the landscape is even more vivid and packed with colour. The Salt Cellar is a very recognisable place for locals, and popular with photographers. However, it is quite a walk to get there and the weather can change quickly which puts a lot of people off. If you are okay with this, it’s a fantastic opportunity to capture one of the icons of the Peak District.

There are a couple of routes to get here, I will provide directions to a local free car park where we will begin the walk. The walk starts with an incline which becomes more gradual over time. Up to the point of being at the top which is relatively flat along Derwent Edge. Footpaths are very visible and well lay out, I would give 45 minutes to an hour to get to the location. It can be done faster, depending on the group’s ability. The focus will be on Salt Cellar itself, however there are other images to be taken along the way.

Throughout the evening we will look at many techniques from beginner to advanced. A few examples could be selecting your camera settings, focus stacking and composing an image. A great technique to use here is a Star effect on the sun which can be done by adjusting your aperture. Bracketing is an essential skill to learn when shooting in high contrast areas too.

I tailor my course to you, as best as I can. Assuring that you learn something new and ultimately come out with work to be proud of.

I welcome all questions, photography, location or hiking related. If you wish for some 1:1 guidance and time allows it, then by all means please ask. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn from a professional - but to meet like minded people and make new friends. I often stay in touch with most people from my workshops and share ideas together in a WhatsApp group (I will add you to it if that’s something you’re interested in)

The maximum spaces available will be 4, five people including me. This will allow me to make sure that everyone cant get the help they require and have their questions answered.

Upon booking, I will email you are a short questionnaire about your photography experience, to help me plan the day for you.
