Heather at Win Hill - Sunset

£85.00

Win Hill - getting its name from the Saxon period, when there was a battle between Wessex and Northumbria. Northumbria on Win Hill and Wessex on Lose Hill. Judging by the names i’m sure you can guess the outcome. This beautiful hill is just north of Bamford and has a distinctive shape which can be seen from afar. A steep ascent through woodland will find you onto the gritstone summit alongside a trig point. Overlooking the heart of the Peak District, full 360 panoramic views, truly an incredible location and one of my favourites. This is perfect for sunset in late summer when the heather is in bloom as the whole landscape lights up pink/purple. The winding path on the other side leads you straight into the sun going down behind the great ridge.

There are a couple of routes to get here, I will provide directions to free roadside parking where we will begin the walk. The walk starts crossing over lady bower reservoir, a good opportunity to capture the plug holes - although at this time of year it’s unlikely they will be overflowing. The ascent begins from there, through woodland with steep steps, in some areas the steps have corroded and require a small amount of scrambling. It is steep, depending on your fitness we may take a couple of breaks on the way up. It usually takes 45 minutes to get to the top.

Throughout the evening we will look at many techniques from beginner to advanced. A few examples could be selecting your camera settings, focus stacking and composing an image. A great technique to use here is a Star effect on the sun which can be done by adjusting your aperture. Bracketing is an essential skill to learn when shooting in high contrast areas too.

I tailor my course to you, as best as I can. Assuring that you learn something new and ultimately come out with work to be proud of.

I welcome all questions, photography, location or hiking related. If you wish for some 1:1 guidance and time allows it, then by all means please ask. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn from a professional - but to meet like minded people and make new friends. I often stay in touch with most people from my workshops and share ideas together in a WhatsApp group (I will add you to it if that’s something you’re interested in)

The maximum spaces available will be 4, five people including me. This will allow me to make sure that everyone cant get the help they require and have their questions answered.

Upon booking, I will email you are a short questionnaire about your photography experience, to help me plan the day for you.
