Grindslow Knoll - Winter Photography Workshop
Photograph a beautiful sunrise on Grindslow Knoll! An incredible gritstone hill in the ‘Dark Peak’ connected to Kinder Scout. Elevation of 601 metres, often quite bleak if you arrive mid day - but at sunrise, a whole different story!
I do have a blog describing my time up here, including a YouTube video documenting this photograph that you can see on the workshop listing. A fairly straight forwards hike, starting in Edale and beginning on the Pennine Way path, then taking a right turn to begin the ascent. It’s one path straight to the top from there, uneven ground and a little bit steep in some areas, but overall not too difficult. There are a couple of images to be taken on the way up, one of them is a beautiful gate, with the Great Ridge in the background. Further up on the top, there are many rock formations to explore, at this time of the year they will likely be frosty or covered in snow.
I will talk through different photography techniques. How to guide the viewers eye to the focal point, how to simplify the scene . Other methods will be discussed such as bracketing, focus stacking, camera settings etc. All different techniques ranging from beginner to advanced. One thing specific to this workshop may be how to photograph in the snow, and potentially high winds causing challenging conditions.
I tailor my course to you, as best as I can. Assuring that you learn something new and ultimately come out with work to be proud of.
I welcome all questions, photography, location or hiking related. If you wish for some 1:1 guidance and time allows it, then by all means please ask. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn from a professional - but to meet like minded people and make new friends. I often stay in touch with most people from my workshops and share ideas together in a WhatsApp group (I will add you to it if that’s something you’re interested in)
The maximum spaces available will be 4, five people including me. This will allow me to make sure that everyone cant get the help they require and have their questions answered.
Upon booking, I will email you are a short questionnaire about your photography experience, to help me plan the day for you.
