Silver Birch and Heather Woodland - Lawrence Field
By far my favourite woodland in the Peak District! I have been here so many times and it just gets better and better. Situated next to a river, there is a good chance you get mist lifting up through the valley and into this area of the wood. Silver Birch and Heather create an incredible colour palette, combine that with some good light and cracking composition - you will come out with, in my opinion, one of your best woodland photographs. Of course, I am a little bias to my favourite place - but it is truly beautiful. It’s very accessible and doesn’t take too much effort to get there, maybe 15 minutes walking from the car park.
There are a plenty of routes to get here, the most convenient is Surprise View car park. We will meet here just before sunrise. Begin our walk during sunrise, as we’re in woodland it’s not a place to photograph the sunrise - but it is important to be here early in the day. One reason, is the light is softer, the other is that the mist shows up in the morning and quickly gets burnt away by the sun.
Throughout the morning we will look at many techniques from beginner to advanced. Composition in woodland is particularly difficult because it can get quite crowded. It’s important to understand how to separate elements and remove distractions to get a great image. We will also be looking at focus stacking, bracketing and selecting your camera settings.
I tailor my course to you, as best as I can. Assuring that you learn something new and ultimately come out with work to be proud of.
I welcome all questions, photography, location or hiking related. If you wish for some 1:1 guidance and time allows it, then by all means please ask. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn from a professional - but to meet like minded people and make new friends. I often stay in touch with most people from my workshops and share ideas together in a WhatsApp group (I will add you to it if that’s something you’re interested in)
The maximum spaces available will be 4, five people including me. This will allow me to make sure that everyone cant get the help they require and have their questions answered.
Upon booking, I will email you are a short questionnaire about your photography experience, to help me plan the day for you.
